What is Pineapple Fiber?

The related production, weaving and export are mostly concentrated in Changhua, Nantou and Fengshi.Around the 32nd year of the Republic of China, as the income from weaving was comparable to the salary of civil servants, farmers at that time planted pineapples in large quantities to obtain fibers, and in the vicinity of Hang Nei Village in the Eshui area, every household, regardless of gender, was engaged in the work of obtaining fibers for weaving. In Beidu Street, “jute weaving” is the most common. After the Restoration, pineapple fiber was even spun together with cotton yarn to make shirts, which were cool and durable and were popular for a while. The elderly people in Dajia and Lugang are especially fond of wearing coats made of pineapple cloth.
